Ongoing licensing process
Available spectrum, national and regional
The Broadcasting Authority has on april 23rd received a letter from Teracom AB regarding additional available spectrum for licensing. In the letter Teracom AB states that the company, through additional investments in new technique, has made more spectrum available since November 2011. Teracom AB makes the assessment that the spectrum may be used for:
- One licence to broadcast hd-tv and two licenses to broadcast sd-tv using the technology DVB-T2/MPEG4, or
- Five licenses to broadcast sd-tv using DVB-T2/MPEG 4.
In the letter Teracom AB also describes the possibilities to broadcast regionally.
Applications for national broadcasts
We received 26 applications for a license for terrestrial television from 14 programme companies. The deadline for applications was 13 February 2012.

Applications for local and regional broadcasting

We estimate that there is available broadcasting spectrum corresponding to one program service of hd-tv (high definition television) or three program services in sd-tv quality (standard definition television). The possibility to issue licenses for regional or local program services will be investigated in each case after applications based on what is technically possible.
The licenses will be valid until 31 March 2014.
Decisions on which broadcasters receive broadcasting licenses will be published on the website.
Statements on the technical conditions
In our Strategy for the Authoritity´s licencing terrestrial tv 2010-2014, we present several positions in technical matters. From these positions we intend to issue licences with, above all, the following technical conditions:
- All licenses will have a condition that the compression technology MPEG4 shall be used.
- All licenses to broadcast nationwide will also include a condition that the broadcaster shall use the transmission technology DVB-T2.
